To amplify the visibility of Black women in mental health, destigmatize care, and promote access to culturally affirming, high-quality services. We are dedicated to creating an empowering space that centers and nurtures the unique experiences of high-achieving Black women and "Good Daughters," helping them navigate trauma, anxiety, and perfectionism. Through our work, we strive to propel them toward healing, balance, and thriving unapologetically.
Beneath the Surface Therapy is a boutique practice specializing in the mental health and wellness of high-achieving Black women, young professionals, and "Good Daughters." While we welcome a diverse population of clients, this space was intentionally curated for Black women navigating trauma, anxiety, family expectations, and perfectionism. Here, we are deeply committed to supporting your healing, growth, and success while prioritizing your emotional wellness. This is a space designed for you—to uncover hidden wounds, embrace vulnerability, and thrive unapologetically.
MORE ABOUT SERVICES
Kortnie is a licensed professional counselor, clinical supervisor, and 3rd-year Counseling Education and Supervision PhD student. She founded Beneath the Surface to create a safe, empowering space for high-achieving Black women to prioritize their mental wellness and to destigmatize mental health care within the BIPOC community. Inspired by her own journey, Kortnie’s clinical focus centers on supporting Black women, young professionals, and "Good Daughters" navigating trauma, anxiety, perfectionism, life transitions, self-discovery, work-life balance, and relational challenges.
With an integrative, relational approach grounded in evidence-based, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed practices, Kortnie tailors her work to honor the unique experiences of her clients. She prioritizes the therapeutic relationship, creates a space for vulnerability, and acknowledges the systems her clients navigate. Her goal is to help clients uncover hidden wounds, break free from guilt and perfectionism, and reclaim their authentic, empowered selves so they can heal and thrive unapologetically.

Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that visibility, access, and empowerment are essential to the mental wellness and healing of high-achieving Black women. We are dedicated to creating a world where Black women feel seen, heard, and supported in their mental health journey, and where the unique challenges of navigating trauma, anxiety, perfectionism, and family expectations are met with care and understanding. By celebrating and nurturing the experiences of Black women and "Good Daughters," we aim to destigmatize mental health, provide culturally affirming and evidence-based practices, and build a transformative, inclusive space for healing and growth. Together, we’re fostering a mental health landscape where authenticity and thriving unapologetically are within reach for every Black woman.
